Dreaming of peace and longing for love, will Cleopatra's plans taint her soul?
Cleopatra Vindicated, a postmodern musical, explores the controversial life of the fascinating last queen of Egypt. Period experts corroborate the plausible twists of its true-to-history plot, including a stunning surprise ending. Questioning the history previously portrayed, audiences will murmur, 'Why didn't I think of this?'
From a female's perspective Maryann Squassabia researched Cleopatra. She composed and wrote music, lyrics, book, and demo orchestrations to give life to the queen, creating an encompassing emotional theme and presenting the true nature of a real person in a gripping character arc. This soul-searching developmental process called upon critique groups, professors, directors, writers, readings, and workshops to fine-tune all efforts into a polished PG-13 theatrical work reminiscent of Rob Marshall's Chicago, Leonardo DiCaprio's Romeo and Juliet, or Disney's Anastasia.
Maryann's professional engagements include performing solo vocals for big bands and events, recording for radio commercials, orchestrating video soundtracks, and composing work-for-hire produced locally. She also finds civic fulfillment composing, arranging and conducting choral and instrumental music.
During 2020, a pivotal moment occurred: Abel Donnelly, a writer and director with marketing experience, took an interest in Maryann's work. He proposed a screenplay of Cleopatra Vindicated. Over the last few years in cooperation, Abel and Maryann have developed this musical now ready to be filmed for the silver screen. The time has come for Cleopatra to be vindicated!
